About Jay

Jay Alexander graduated from Wabash College in 1968 and obtained Masters Degrees from Harvard University and University of Massachusetts in Far Eastern languages , religion, and art.

After finishing his studies and working in the Neuroscience and Behavior Department at the University of Massachusetts, he started a small graphics company, I-hua Graphics, and for many years he designed and illustrated medical and science college textbooks and developed accompanying animations.

Drawing on this graphics experience and his studies in Far Eastern art, he has devoted himself to expression with the simple media of ink, watercolor and rice paper, keeping close ties with the literati tradition of the scholar-painter, while infusing his work with aspects of contemporary graphic design.

He has exhibited his work in many local venues in the Amherst area and has been selected in several juried art shows.
